WARDEN CEMETERY
CR935
This cemetery is on the James Hufflefinger survey. The survey straddles the Grayson County line north of Weston. It is a large survey, covering 1 league, about 4500 acres.
The name changes between "Warden" and "Worden." The family says that "Worden" is the original spelling, but both spellings apply to the same family. In 1853 John Warden bought 400 acres here. In 1909 his second wife, Mary, donated land for a school.
Williams Worden, Sr. was born in Kentucky in 1808. He brought his family to Collin County in April of 1844. He settled for a short time in the Climax area. When the deed there proved bad, he headrighted 640 acres just north of Weston. He died in 1858 on his farm. It is said that he was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. This would be impossible if he was born in 1808. He and his wife had 11 children.
According to COLLIN COUNTY CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS I, the only Wordens known to be buried here are Marie, born in 1839, wife of John, and a daughter, Sabell. These are probably Mary Womack, the second wife of John (a son of Williams, Sr.), and their daughter, Isabella, who died as a child. There may be more Wordens here. There is no record of graves in Collin County for Williams Worden, Sr., his wife, Hulda, John Worden and his first wife, Louisa, and the first two wives of Williams, Jr., Hester Ann and Nancy. On the tombstones for most of the family the name is spelled "Warden."
This cemetery is fenced with a 4-foot chain-link fence. It covers about 1 ½ acres. There are few trees. Over 250 people are buried here. Most of the burials are in the 1900's. The earliest marked grave was in 1872 for an infant. The cemetery and access are deeded in Vol 1294, p 825. The cemetery is well maintained and appears to be active.
