E. S. Doty School - McKinney
Doty School was the black school in McKinney. It served black students from throughout the county. The school was originally named the Fred Douglas School. The name was changed to Doty to honor Professor Edward Sewell Doty (1865 - 1947), who was a graduate of Prairie View College. He taught in McKinney for 50 years and was principal at Doty.
The Doty School housed all 12 grades. It was a two-story brick school building located on the east side of McKinney at Throckmorton Street and Seneca Boulevard. It was built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. A gym, a cafeteria and an auxiliary educational building were added later. The school closed in 1966 with the advent of integration.
