COTHES
Herman Cothes - born Jan 26, 1849 at Bardwell, Ky. Came to Collin County about 1871 and settled just East of Plano with the William Forman II family. He worked for the Forman’s until the summer of 1876. He returned to Kentucky and on Sept. 12, 1876 married George Anna Brown, daughter of George and Carolina Mercer Brown.
They returned to the Forman Farm and lived in a cabin, just south of the Plano Mutual Cemetery until 1878 when they bought a farm southwest of Allen in Bethany community. They had 7 children.
Frank Cothes - born June 16, 1877 on the Forman farm, lived on the home place, southwest of Allen till 1929 then made his home with the Skaggs family in Plano until his death 3-22-55. Buried at Rowlett, never married.
Mattie Belle Cothes - born Jan. 26, 1879 southwest of Allen. married Sam Moulden of Murphy Jan. 30, 1900. They later moved to Houston where she died Fab. 15, 1968.
Abbie Dee Cothes - Born 2-26-1881, married Bert Carpenter 6-18-07 and died Jan. 25, 1915, Buried at Rowlett.
Chester Cothes - Born 4-14-1883, moved to Seminole, Gaines County, 1909, married Gertrude Anderson in 1911. She died in 1912 and in 1915 Chester married Dane Giddings of Allen. He died 12-16-37 at Seminole.
Fred Cothes - Born Nov. 6, 1887, married Vivian Gates of Allen in 1913. Died May 25, 1933. Buried at Rowlett.
Mary Ethel Cothes - Born Jan. 17, 1889. Married Dennis Knight of Allen March 2, 1924, moved to Gaines County in 1926 and died there July 8, 1972. Buried at Seminole.
Grady Cothes - Born Aug. 22, 1891. Married Almedia Bishop of Celina on Sept. 24, 1919. She died Aug. 13, 1939. Grady is only surviving child of Herman Cothes and still living in Collin Co.
Chester Reeves Cothes of Seminole and Grady E. Cothes of Plano are only Cothes Grandsons and Randy Cothes of Plano, only great grandson of Herman Cothes.
Herman Cothes was farmer and stockman. Raised Poland China Hogs and short horn cattle. Believed in improving wheat oats and corn. Spent many hours in seed selection and livestock improvement. Hobby of budding and grafting trees and roses. had peach trees with 5 different kinds of peaches and plum trees with 3 kinds of plums.
Died Feb. 2, 1917 at his hoe southwest of Allen Buried at Rowlett Cemetery
George Anna Cothes died Aug. 16, 1905.
