Mrs. J. Lively Aldridge, who would have reached her 84th birthday February 20, a lifelong and esteemed resident of Collin county and the Plano community, passed away at the family home at 11:30 o’clock Saturday night after a long illness.
Her largely attended funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member, conducted by the pastor, Reverend Frank Brooks and a former pastor, Dr. Floyd Poe of Dallas. Interment followed in the Plano Mutual Cemetery with the Harrington Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Jack Aldridge, Bob Aldridge, Jim Aldridge , Aldridge Kelly, J. O. Smith, Jr., Charles Cason, Joe Easter, Bill Bourn, and J. Frank Jones.
The former Miss Mary Elizabeth Dye, she was born in Plano February 20, 1873, the daughter of the late Dr. Henry Dye, native of Kentucky, and Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Skiles Dye, a native of Tennessee. She had lived all her life in and near Plano.
She was preceded in passing by her husband, J. Lively Aldridge, and one son, Jack Aldridge.
Surviving are three sons: Henry Aldridge and J. L. Aldridge, Jr., both of Austin, and Tom S. Aldridge of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four daughters, Mrs. J. O. Smith, Sr., of Dallas, and Mrs. R. E. Kelley, Mrs. L. M. Beasley and Miss Bess Aldridge, all of Plano, 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Both Mrs. Aldridge and her husband became active members of the Presbyterian Church about the time the church was reorganized as the Plano Presbyterian Church in 1889. Mr. Aldridge later became a Deacon and a Ruling Elder, as well as having long service as Sunday School Superintendent.
The father of Mrs. Aldridge, Dr. Henry Dye, was the donor of the land site on which the original former building of the Presbyterian Church was constructed. Mrs. Aldridge, a lifelong and faithful member of that church, served in many capacities, as president of the Women’s Missionary Society, as teacher in the Sunday School and in other capacities.
The passing of this esteemed and highly respected Plano resident has cast a pall of sadness throughout this entire area, and we join with the host of other friends in extending sincerest sympathy to all those left to mourn her loss.
