Giles McKinney
Mr. and Mrs. McKinney Wed 75 Years Ago
A beloved McKinney couple Mr and Mrs. Giles McKinney, are quietly observing their 75th wedding anniversary. February 28. They were married in 1833 in the Forest Grove Community by the late Elder E. B. Faulkner, pioneer Christian minister of the county. [There is some mistake on the year. Marriage records say they married in 1884. Their children were born in the 1880s.]
Mrs. McKinney was the former Mary Ann Matthews, a native of Webster, Texas, but moved to Collin County with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Matthews in her childhood. Mr. McKinney, a native of Collin County, is the son of Elder John M. and Polly Ann McKinney, pioneer settlers in the county, where his father was a Christian minister.
Mr. and Mrs. McKinney have lived in this city most of their married lives, where he has bee n active in business, and civic circles until a few years ago when frail health made his retirement necessary. He was a retail grocery merchant for years, a charter member of the Rotary Club, and past president of the Collin County Fair association. He is a director in the Collin County National Bank, with which institution he has been affiliated for over a half century. The couple are both members of the First Christian Church.
They are the parents of five children, one son, Herschel McKinney and a daughter, Mrs. Etta M. Norton, both deceased. The other children are Mrs. L. E. Mallow of San Angelo, Eustace McKinney of Dallas, and Mr. Cecile Thomas of this city. Their grandchildren are Mrs. Raymond Willie, Sr., and Clifford Thomas, Jr., both of Dallas, and their Great grandchildren are Raymond Willie Jr., Sandra, Dianna and Nancy Thomas all of Dallas. They also have three Great-great--granddaughters Gail, Rosanne, and Annette Willie, of Dallas.
The host of friends of the McKinney family join in best wishes to this honored pair upon reaching their 75th wedding anniversary.
