Newspaper Article: Mrs. Addle Phillips Ellis, wife of Tom Ellis of near Gunter, Texas died at her home there Friday morning about 6 o’clock after two weeks illness of influenza. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Marilee Baptist Church conducted by Rev. W. J. Epting, Baptist pastor at Celina, Texas with burial in Cottage Hill Cemetery. The Helms Funeral Home of Celina, Texas was in charge. Nephews of the deceased were pallbearers as follows: Etheridge Phillips, Clifford Phillips, Bill Phillips, Ben Phillips, Jim Bob Phillips and Bill Miller. The deceased was born August 8,1872 at Alla Hubbard Community, daughter of A. J. and Mary Phillips. She was 65 years old at the time of her death. She had been a member of the Baptist church for forty two years. Surviving are her husband to whom she was married in 1893; one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Parsley of Gunter, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Julie Compton and Mrs. Bettie Miller, both of Celina, Texas and four brothers, Chris, Mack, Tollie and Dick Phillips all of Celina, Texas. Obituary: Tom Porter Ellis, 83, passed away at the family home in Marilee Community early Tuesday morning after an illness of three weeks. He was born November 10, 1865 in Tennessee. Mr. Ellis is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Parsley of the Marilee Community; two grandsons; one grand daughter and two brothers, R. T. Ellis of Altus, Oklahoma and W. M. Ellis of Duncan, Oklahoma. Rev. Roy Stanley and Rev. L. T. Grumbles conducted the service at the Cottage Hill Methodist Church Wednesday at 2 p.m. Interment followed in the cemetery there. Helms Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers were Glenn Phillips, Oris Phillips, Ben Phillips, Earl Miller and Bill Miller. (The Celina Record, Celina, Texas, May 19, 1949)
