Possum Trot
Possum Trot was a popular name for early rural communities. The name is derived from the opossum's trotting by on their way to their next meal.
Possum Trot was the common name for the Pleasant Ridge School that was located southeast of Prosper.
There was another Possum Trot near the Haw Branch of Honey Creek. The possums liked the red and black haws that grew along the creek bank. A haw is the fruit of the hawthorne tree. This community is also called Cottage Hill.
The Preston Road/Plano Parkway area was called Possum Trot, as was the Kreymer School in the Wylie area.
When someone mentions Possum Trot or the Possum Trot School, it is difficult to know which one they are referring to.
