W. H. CHANDLER
The Plano Review, by H. Grady Chandler, 1914
Born in Lee County, Virginia, December 29, 1853; married to Miss Mary Weaver, December, 1878; three children: Lizzie, Mack and Grady.
Like most of our old citizens, Mr. Chandler was educated in the log school house. Beginning at the age of eighteen he taught school for two years in his native state and then moved to Texas with his parents, settling near Allen, in this county. In 1881 he came to Plano and engaged in the grocery and hardware business until 1896 when he entered the dry goods business, continuing in that until 1908, when he retired from business. He was deputy tax assessor in this county for four years, a member of the city council for eight years, a member of the school board, and several years city treasurer. He has been a member of the board of stewards of the Methodist Church for twenty-six years and for the past twenty-two years has been secretary and treasurer of that body.
