by Wofford Thompson
Called the greatest all-round fullback in Texas Christian University history, All American Tommy Joe Crutcher returns home next week to McKinney to receive rightly earned honors.
McKinney’s former star, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crutcher, will be in McKinney Tuesday, February 18, for a special day proclaimed by Mayor Louis Miller... Tommy Joe Crutcher Day.
His special day will begin at 12 noon when the local Jaycees will honor our celebrity at their regular luncheon meeting at the Commercial Hotel.
Tommy Joe’s High School Coach Charles Qualls will be featured speaker. His talk will, of course, be centered around McKinney’s football teams when Crutcher was a star, his later accomplishments at TCU, and a salute to his future as an All-American star and pro player.
Jaycee President Monty Nitcholas announced that the public would be invited to the luncheon but, because of the anticipated crowd, anyone planning to attend should notify the Chamber of Commerce office in advance. The meal will be $1.30 per person and payment may be made at the door.
Starting at 3 p.m., a special reception honoring Tommy Joe has been planned by the Public Relations Committee of the Chamber of Commerce. The reception will be in the Central National Bank’s Civic Room and will last until 5 p.m....
