Constructed in 1940 for Ben and Verda (Dowell) Hill, this two story home was designed by architect Everett V. Welch. Verda, born in1873 to early Collin County pioneers Wills R. and Susan Dowell, died Dec. 31, 1957. Ben Hill was the son of another pioneer family, James Wootson and Eugenia (Graves) Hill. James Wootson had ridden with Jesse James.
Philanthropists, the Hill family have helped build the McKinney chapter of the American Red Cross, and endowed the Salvation Army and Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch...
