FATHER CHARGED IN SON’S DEATH

McKinney – L. H. Caudell, of Melissa, was released Friday under $2000 bond after being charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his son, Leonard Hall Caudell, 19, before Justice Portman Barker.
The charge was filed by Collin County Attorney Robert R. Hendricks, who said the youth was fatally shot in the throat during a scuffle over a pistol in front of the Caudell Grocery Store about 1:10 a.m. The youth died instantly.
The scuffle resulted when the youth was surprised inside the store, according to the county attorney.
Funeral services for the youth are pending at the Crouch-Moore Funeral Home.
Survivors include the parents and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:30 o’clock at the Melissa Baptist Church for Leonard Hall Caudell, 19, who died in Melissa early Friday morning. The Rev. Loren White, pastor at Melissa and the Rev. G. B. Barney, of Gunter, will conduct the service with burial in Stoney Point Cemetery. The Crouch-Moore Funeral Home of this city has charge of arrangements.
He was born in Melissa June 29, 1934, and was a member of the Baptist Church.
Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie H. Caudell, three brothers: Jesse Caudell, of Dallas; Dudlley Caudell, of Washington D. C., and James Caudell, of Melissa; four sisters: Mrs. Norene Roper of Anna; Mrs. Alta Marie Taylor, of McKinney; Mrs. Imogene Drain of McKinney, and Mrs. Bonnie Ruth Skaggs, of Malakoff. Other Survivors include a grandfather Tom Airhart, of Valdasta and grandmother, Mrs. Armande Caudell of Melissa.
