Newspaper, 1993. Services for Mrs. Alma Jackson, 80, of Weston, who died Thursday at North Texas Medical Center, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Weston with the Revs. Mac Pope and Steve Sweeney officiating. Burial will be in Cottage Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cantrell Funeral Home of Celina. Mrs. Jackson was born on March 11, 1913, in Weston, the daughter of the late James Calloway and Sarah Matthews Pope. She married Glen R. Jackson on July 11, 1966, in Sherman and he preceded her in death on Oct. 27, 1993. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Weston and a housewife. Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Betty Burch of McKinney; her stepdaughter, Sharon Whisenant of Pilot Point; two sisters, Opal Gracy and Jackie Speck, both of Weston; four grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one step great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 tonight at the Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel in Celina. |

Historical marker application for Young Cemetery by Joy Gough Prudence Finley Jackson was the wife of Shadrick Jackson and a sister of Thomas Finley. She was also an aunt of Charity Stowe Young, and of John and Francis Finley. She was born in the Pendleton district of South Carolina. She was one of the seven charter members of the Rowlett Creek Baptist Church. Her stone reads: "In Memory, March 15, 1800, to December 31, 1858, aged 58 yrs, 9 mo, 16 das." Her father, John Finley, fought in the War of 1812 and was known as "Fighting Jack" Finley. She married Shadrick Jackson in Madison County, Illinois. Her stone is south of Shadrick's . Historical marker application for Young Cemetery by Joy Gough Shadrick Jackson was the husband of Prudence Finley Jackson. He was also an uncle of Charity Stowe Young, and of John and Francis Finley, and a brother of Charlotta Jackson Finley. The Jacksons came to Collin County around 1845. Shadrick Jackson was one of the seven charter members of the Rowlett Creek Baptist Church. He had the headright east of the Rowlett Creek Baptist Church. Part of his headright was given for the Rowlett Creek Cemetery in 1861, although his son, Shadrick Joshua, was the one to give it. Shadrick Jackson was one of the group of settlers who had been neighbors in Greene County, Illinois, before moving to Texas. He was born in Wake County, North Carolina, on March 18, 1800, and died May 25, 1878. His father was Low Jackson. The Jackson and Finley families were neighbors in Madison County, Illinois. Shadrick Jackson married Prudence Finley. Thomas Finley married Charlotta Jackson. Shadrick Jackson's stone is in the middle of the cemetery, 2 rows east of the stone for Sam and Charity Young. It says, "In memory." |
