NANCY BULLOCK
Cemeteries of Collin County, Texas, by Joy Gough
The Nancy Bullock Cemetery is probably the same as the Millwood Cemetery.
Nancy Bullock was the sister of Alexander Horton. The Hortons settled in San Augustine County, Texas, in the 1830's. James Whitis Bullock and Alexander Horton both fought in the Texas Revolution. Alexander Horton was an aide to Sam Houston. He owned several acres of land in the vicinity of the Millwood Cemetery. The land was probably given to him as bounty land for fighting in the Texas Revolution. Jesse Stiff, who also fought in the Mexican Wars, was given one league and one labor of land in Collin County. That amounts to over 4000 acres.
In his memoirs, Alexander Horton says that when his sister, Nancy Horton Bullock, died in 1854, he had 4 acres of land in Collin County surveyed and created a cemetery. No record has been found of the survey or deed. James Whitis Bullock died in 1859 and was buried beside his wife. Their stones have not survived. Sometimes the name is spelled "Bulloch."
