J. S. Carlisle and family came to Denton, Texas from Missouri in 1899. He was Superintendent of the Denton School until 1915, when he moved to McKinney to become Superintendent in August 1915. He passed away Jan. 3, 1929. During his administration the schools in McKinney were fifth in affiliation with the University of Texas surpassed only by the big cities offering more courses.
There were six girls in the family.

Grace Carlisle Moore was a graduate of Denton High School and North Texas University. She taught several years in Denton and Kansas City, Missouri, Paducah and Commerce, Tex. She retired in 1960 and passed away in 1971.
Susie Carlisle graduated from T. W. U. in Denton with a B. A. and M. A. degree. She taught in Gilmer, Celina, Greenville and in McKinney 43 years. She retired in 1963.
Johnnie Lee Carlisle graduated from McKinney High School and North Texas University and taught in McKinney, Beaumont and Denison.
