Dr. E. L. Burton and Miss Lizzie Duer were married in this city at 5 p.m., Wednesday December 15. Rev. J. W. Hill officiated. The ceremony took place at the residence of J. D. Stiff in the presence of a number of invited guests.

Mrs. Lizzie Mae Burton, 89, one of McKinney’s most prominent club and church women, passed away at her home, 132 South Tennessee Street, McKinney, Sunday at 1:50 a.m. She had been in frail health for several months.
A native of St. Joseph, Missouri where she was born November 14, 1868, she had lived in McKinney most of her life coming here with her parents William Thomas Duer and Evangeline Vaughn Duer when she was two years of age. She was educated in McKinney public schools and also taught here prior to her marriage to Dr. E. L. Burton, December 15, 1897.
Throughout her lifetime “Miss Lizzie” was active in the social, cultural and civic life of McKinney. She taught a young woman’s class in the Methodist Church for many years which still bears her name. She has held many offices in the Women’s Missionary Society, not only locally, but in the district. She organized Mother’s Clubs here before Parent-Teacher Associations became known and was identified in many ways with the youth of the city.
Her work in women’s clubs was known statewide, Mrs. Burton was past-president of the Second District Federation of Women’s Clubs, and an honorary member of the organization.
