FAMILY REUNION IS HELD NEAR SHERMAN JULY 19

Mrs. W. R. Webb and husband living on Route 2, Anna, in North Collin, attended a family reunion held at Woodlake, North of Sherman, Sunday July 19, celebrating the eighty-eighth birthday of her mother, Mrs. Lucy Elliott, 1124 East Lamar Street, Sherman. The actual birthday was July 22, but the event was observed in advance in order to accommodate more of the numerous relatives of this old-time Grayson County settler who wanted to attend.
Mrs. Elliott was a daughter of Carey and Emily Watson, her maiden name being Lucy E. Watson. She was born, July 23, 1848, in Bowie County, Texas, but moved with her parents to Grayson County, in 1850. Her parents settled six miles west of Van Alstyne. She was married, in 1864 to Joseph T. Elliott, son of Rev. David Elliott, a pioneer Baptist preacher of South Grayson, who often preached in different parts of North Collin. Her husband died, November 12, 1909, and is buried in the Elliott Cemetery, the land for which he donated from his farm, six miles west of Van Alstyne.
Mrs. Elliott was the mother of ten children of whom four sons and four daughters are still living. They are Roge Elliott, Bird Elliott, and Joseph W. Elliott, all of Kiowa, Oklahoma, and Carey Elliott, Route 3, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Jennie McNeely, Route 3, Van Alstyne, Mrs. W. R. Webb, Route 2, Anna; Mrs. Nannie Webb, 1224 East Lamar Street, Sherman, with whom the dear old mother lives, and Mrs. Lucy McNeely of Denison; All the children were present except one daughter Mrs. Jennie McNeely, who has been an invalid, confined to her bed for several years.
Mrs. Elliott’s mother was a first cousin of Collin McKinney. Nearly eighty relatives were present at the reunion, as follows:
