John Meek was married to Mahalia Tidwell. She died in childbirth about 1854. He remarried in 1855 to Sarah Elizabeth Freeman in Collin County.
John Meek is said to have served as a magistrate of Collin County while they lived there. John was originally from Dickson County, Tennessee, having left there in 1847 and migrated to Upsher County,Texas, near Gilmer, before moving on to Collin County. He left Collin County sometime after 1855 and moved farther west to Wise County. He was again a widower in the 1860 census. Sarah Elizabeth Freeman Meek died about 9 days after giving birth to Sarah Elizabeth Meek about 1858.
John and Mahalia Tidwell Meek's daughter, Rachel married Heustice Brook in Collin County, and his Christopher Columbus Meek married Emily Octavia Day there also.. Their daughter, Margaret Jane Meek married Tom Day, a brother to Emily Octavia Day.
