SUNSHINE COTTON WINS FIRST AGAIN AT STATE FAIR.
Mrs. Ray Duncan of McKinney, Route 1, was again awarded first premium at the Texas State fair this year for the third time, on the best pound of lint cotton. Mrs. M. J. Carter of the Foote community won second.
These ladies exhibited the Davidson Sunshine cotton, which won over a number of other varieties shown. This is the third consecutive year that Mrs. Duncan has won first prize with Davidson Sunshine cotton in the state-wide contest.
Ray Duncan, whose wife won first prize again this year at the state fair, has this to say concerning the Davidson Sunshine cotton:
“This is my fourth year of raising Sunshine cotton, and it is remarkable the success I have had with this cotton. It has been very outstanding all these years, regardless of the weather condition, experiencing both wet years and drouth and insect infestations. I think the reason is because of its small foliage, which lets the sun mature the cotton earlier. I have kept a close record on you Sunshine cotton and I find it has grown very popular in my neighborhood. Mr opinion is that the county will be standardized with Sunshine cotton in a few years, which will mean a whole lot to the cotton producer.
“Since I have been farming I have planted several popular varieties of cotton seed, but find from actual experience that Sunshine cotton makes me more dollars to the acre than any of the other varieties did. I wish to assure you that I am a firm believer in Sunshine cotton.”
