Mrs. R. H. Brown
BIRTHDAY PARTY.
Plano newspaper. [penciled in Mar 22, 1834, not the date of the newspaper]
One of the most enjoyable occasions of the season was the birthday party given Monday afternoon to Mrs. R. H. Brown by her daughters, Mrs. Belle Alle and Mrs. R. A. Wells, at the home of Mrs. Allee. It was the 75th birthday of Mrs. Brown and she enjoyed it as much as any young lady of sixteen. Although many natal days have passed by, some pleasant, some sad, none of them will be held in memory by her with more pleasure than this. Many beautiful and valuable gifts were presented.
The guests joined in singing old time songs and sacred hymns.
Mrs. J. G. Witherspoon and Mrs. D. J. Collins added much to the entertainment by their excellent performance on the piano. These ladies convinced those present that it is not the young alone who are skillful musicians. Mrs. Witherspoon played “Dixie”, “Prettiest Girl in the county”, “Home Sweet Home” and “The Girl I Left Behind Me.” Mrs. Collins played several old time selections which were enjoyed and heartily applauded by all.
Songs, sentimental, patriotic and sacred, were sung by Miss Mary Ragland and Miss Sheffield.
Refreshments of salad, pie, cake, pickles and ambrosia were served.
All present were requested to give their ages which were as follows: Mrs. R. H. Brown, 75; Mrs. Sheffield, 72; Mrs. Campbell, 57; Mrs. Wells, 50; Mrs. Witherspoon, 63; Mrs. Banister, Jr., 33; Mrs. Allee, 54; Mrs. Beverly, 52; Mrs. Hamilton, 55; Mrs. Banister, Sr., 75; Mrs. Reid, 75; Miss Achsa Sheffield, 52; Mrs. J. R. Allee, 27; Dr. Adams, 66; Mrs. Purcell, 69; Miss Carrie Allee, 26; Ed Brown, 20; Miss Mary Ragland, 23; D. J. Collins, 63; Abe Allee, 23; Mrs. D. J. Collins, 67; Miss Bettie Allee, 21; Mrs. Wilson, 67; Luke Roberts, 40; J. C. Witherspoon, 65; and Lowell Wells, 9.
All joined in wishing that many years may be added to the useful life of Mrs. Brown and that they may have the privilege of enjoying with her many more such occasions.
