Roland Gooch
ROLAND GOOCH, CONFEDERATE
Weekly Democrat-Gazette, August 10, 1911
ROLAND GOOCH OF NEVADA
One of the one-line, old-time ex-Confederate soldiers, who fought valiantly for the Stars and Bars, from ‘61 to ‘65 never flinching or failing to do his duty, is here today mingling, with old comrades at the reunion. He called in to see his favorite county paper, the Weekly Democrat-Gazette, having been a valued reader for almost a quarter of a century–and bid us godspeed. Mr. Gooch is a good Christian man, a sound Democrat, and a most highly respected citizen of the Nevada section, where he has lived to the past 35 years. He enlisted in the Confederate army in Nov. 1861, and followed the flag until April 26, 1865. He was in 42d company C. of Tennessee, Quarle’s Brigade, Wathall’s Division, Stewart’s Corps. Bro. Gooch saw some sure enough fighting with the army of Tennessee. He is yet hale and hearty, well known all over the county, and very popular with all who know him.
