Green Bishop
THE GREEN BISHOP FAMILY
by the Cothes family
Green Rice was born February 11, 1866 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Little is known of his family but he did have a young brother named Elijah and a sister named Betty. He came to Texas in 1884 at age 18 and settled just north of Renner in Collin County and worked for John Dickerson. On February 4, 1890 he married Annie E. Heustis of Lebanon. She was the daughter of Henry Eeustis and Elizabeth Cook who had settled in Collin County in 1858 with ancestors going back to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania on 1755.
Green and Annie Bishop farmed land that is now the site of Texas A&M University, east of Renner. They lived here until 1911 when they moved to the Crawford Lease farm, northwest of Plano. In 1915 they bought a large tract of land west of Marilee on the Collin-Grayson [county] line. They lived at Dalhart for several years before returning to Frisco where Green Bishop died April 3, 1936. Annie died on August 8, 1937, and both are buried in Baccus Cemetery.
The couple had 5 children; Almedia Bishop married Grady Cothes of Plano and died August 13, 1939; Harry Bishop moved to Waka, Texas and died May 18, 1971; Oscar Bishop died in service, World War I; Fred Bishop moved to Ft. Worth and died February 1, 1960; and Andy Bishop lives in Pilot Point in Denton County.
Two of the Green Bishop grandchildren now live in Collin County, Mrs. J. B. Cannady of McKinney and Grady E. Cothes of Plano. Two great-grandchildren live in Collin County, Johnny Harrington of Frisco and Randy Cothes of Plano.
