J. E. HERRINGTON’S FUNERAL VERY LARGELY ATTENDED

Van Alstyne, Tex, June 14– Following a long illness, John E. Herrington, prominent capitalist, landowner and business man of this community, died at his home at Van Alstyne, early Friday, June 11. Herrington was a native of the Weston community, a few miles west of Van Alstyne, and was one of the best known men in this section. He was vice president of the Van Alstyne roller mills and was prominent in the work of the local Methodist church, of which he was a steward. He also was one of the leaders among the Odd Fellow of Van Alstyne.
Surviving are the widow, [Ida May] two daughters, Mrs. C. M. Hayes of Weston and Mrs. W. L. Kinard of Van Alstyne and two half brothers, George Robinson of Van Alstyne and J. Tom Robinson of Celina, together with a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held at the First Methodist church of Van Alstyne Saturday, conducted by Rev. C. B. Fielder and Leo Johnston of Van Alstyne, W. E. Kerby of Anna, W. E. Camester of Weston and Charles Dennis of Forney.
Pallbearers were as follows: Active, L. A. Cartwright, R. S. Fulton, J. M. Neathery, E. P. Williams, J. J. Myers, Spencer Taylor.
Honorary: John Morris, Will Foster, H. D. Gilbert, T. B. Williams, C. C. Carruth, C. A. Tucker, D. Orendorff, J. T. Sheridan, L. E. Kinard, W. W. Blasingame, Dr. S. H. Bryan, Jim Ferguson, W. T. Evatt, C. W. Smith, E. K. Taylor.

PROMINENT VAN ALSTYNE CITIZEN PASSES AWAY
Was Big Landholder in Collin and Had Large Interest in Van Alstyne.
John E. Herrington, 63 years of age, died at his home in Van Alstyne Friday. Mr. Herrington was a resident of North Collin and South Grayson counties for many years, residing in the Lone Star community, northwest from Weston, where he owned large land interest. He was vice president of the Continental State Bank of Van Alstyne and up until a few months ago was president of the Van Alstyne Roller mills. He is survived by his wife [Ida May] and two daughters, Mrs. C. M. Hayes of Weston and Mrs. Lee Kinnard of Van Alstyne and by two half brothers, George Robinson of Van Alstyne and J. T. Robinson of Celina. For the past two years he has been in declining health and the end came Friday. Mr. Herrington was a man honored, loved and respected by his many neighbors and friends. These editors regretted to hear of his death. His remains were laid to rest in the Van Alstyne cemetery Saturday afternoon and a large concourse of friends followed his body to the last resting place.
To all upon whom bereavement has fallen we extend our sincere sympathy.
