Luke George
LUKE GEORGE FAMILY
Letter.
I’m seeking information on my great grandparents Luke & Nancy George, who settled about 5 miles north-west of McKinney in 1856 near the William (Will) Horn farm.
Their children were as follows: Mead, Mary Elizabeth married James (Jim) Carruth. Tom and Jerman married the Reed sisters Sally and Jane cousins of Robert (Bob) Horn. They were either living in the home of William (Will) Horn or on the farm.
There were two more boys Arther & Jerry. Jerry George drowned on his way home from the army in East-Fork Creek near Chambersville in 1864. Would like to know where he is buried.
I would like any information, as to where my grandparents are buried. Some say they are buried in the Scott Cemetery.
My great grandparents (Luke) Lucas and Nancy George attended this church [The Old Vineland Church], they owned land and lived about ½ mile southeast of the Horn Cemetery. I think a Dr. Erwin owns the land now. My older relatives told me years ago about my great grandmother Nancy George prepared the loaf of bread for the communion. They both died within a few weeks or months of each other the year 1867. Buried in Scott Cemetery.
Helen (Horn) Graves did have a picture of the Vineland Church. ...
I finally found the death date of J. C. Carruth Oct. 9, 1867 but didn’t find where he was buried. J. C. Carruth was Elder R. C. Horn’s grandfather– Horn’s mother was Martha E. Carruth, only daughter of J. C. Carruth. They all come from Wilson Co., Tennessee to Texas in 1858.
I’ve been trying to find data on [school] District one of Collin Co. The Lone Star School which originated the year 1884. There should of been something in the McKinney papers about the building and opening of this first school. A Mr. G. R. and wife Betty Fletcher owned the farm on which the school was built. Later in 1895 the Johnny Herrington family donated one acre of land about 1 mile east of the first school and a 2nd Lone Star School was built. Then in 1918 or 1919 another larger building was erected and school was held in it till 1948 when it consolidated with the Weston School and the building was moved to Weston and thus ended the Lone Star School Dist. 1.
I also have been trying to find the birth date of a great uncle of mine Henry Reed. He and his wife and small son were burned so badly in a fire that destroyed their house that they all died as result. This was about the year 1899 or 1900....
The Reeds were kinfolks of the Horns also – his mother was Nancy Emaline (Horn) Reed – sister of Elder R. C. Horn’s father William Henderson Horn.
There is an obituary of my grandfather T. A. George which was written by Elder R. C. Horn in the Courier Gazette of April 8, 1921. Horn tells a great deal of the Luke & Nancy George family. Also an obituary of another Great uncle. Headed in the Courier Gazette (Confederate Veteran Answers Death Call). This was Dec. 16, 1919 when this appeared in the paper.
