Joseph and Mary were from Switzerland. They were married in 1858 in St. Louis. The children were born in Missouri. They are listed in the 1870 census in St. Louis. The family came to Texas in 1878. For the 1880 census they are listed twice – once in Collin County and once in Dallas County. In Collin County both children are living with them. In Dallas County, only Joseph, Jr. is living with them. In the 1900 census Mary Elizabeth says she has been married for 19 years. Joseph, Jr. is buried near Sachse. Mary the mother committed suicide.
A SUICIDE
Mrs. Mary Christian, a German lady, suicide at Wylie yesterday morning by saturating her clothes with coal oil and firing them. No cause is given for the act.
