G. W. BOWMAN
The Plano Review, by H. Grady Chandler, 1914
Born at Sweetwater, Monroe County, Tennessee, April 18, 1844; married to Miss Eliza McFarlin , (deceased), June 3, 1875; married to Mrs. Brina Honaker, December 18, 1894; three children: Richard, Edna (deceased), and Russell (deceased).
Receiving his education in the log school houses of Tennessee, coming to Texas in 1857, serving in the Confederate army while a mere boy, Mr. Bowman has fought the battles of poverty, schooled himself in experience, and at a ripe age has attained a goal that few men in his condition would have survived to attain. No man has more and better friends than Mr. Bowman. Always ready to help those in need, he has done a great service to humanity. Many young men have been able to go through college by the help of Mr. Bowman. One of the wealthiest men and largest land owners in this community, he has done much for the development of our town. He is president of the Plano National Bank, a director in the Dallas-Sherman Interurban, a director in the Sam Houston Life Insurance company, and actively interested in many enterprises in Texas. For ten years he was a member of the school board, serving several years as president of that body. Those connected with the school know of the efficient service he has rendered that institution. He is a member of the Methodist Church.
