Martin White Moses, son of Norton and Lucy Ann Moses, was born at the Moses Ranch near Strickling, Burnet County, on October 11, 1871. After his schooling was finished he worked in the Lampasas Post Office, later returning to Burnet County and worked in a general merchandise store. Eight years later he bought an interest in the Stokes Brothers and Col. and remained until 1914 when he sold his interest and formed a new partnership with J. H. H. Berry, Nell Berry, and Nancy J. McGuery. They operated a general merchandise store at Rogers, Bell County, Texas. In May of 1917 they moved the firm to McKinney and the store was in operation until 1927 when they sold out.
Martin Moses entered the life insurance field, where he was so successful that he became Manager of the Austin District of the Prudential Insurance company. He retired in 1958 at the age of 87 years. he celebrated his 102nd birthday on October 11, 1973 at the home of his daughter, Christine Moses Stidham and her husband, R. M. Stidham.
Mrs. Lenora Lewis Moses was born at Oatmeal, Burnet County, on July 14, 1872. She was from a historic family, one of her great-great-great grandfathers, Col. Fielding Lewis, having married Betty Washington, sister of George Washington, "Father of Our Country." She died in Austin on October 7, 1959 and is buried in Pecan Grove in McKinney.
Martin White Moses and Lenora Lewis Moses were the parents of nine children, Andrew (named for Gen. Andrew Moses), Robert Lewis, Martine, Madeline, Josephine, Leon Oliver, Allie Florine, Mary Christine, and Norine.
Madeline Moses was born in Lampasas, Texas on January 12, 1899, attended school there and graduated from the Rogers High School, Rogers, Texas with highest honors. After moving to McKinney, she entered McKee Business College at McKinney, and one month after graduation she became associated with the Collin County National Bank, starting out as Secretary. She remained there forty-seven years, resigning at the end of 1966 as Vice-President & cashier. She has been very active in the civic life of McKinney and Collin County, and in January, 1974 received her 16th Life membership in the McKinney Chamber of Commerce. Since 1856 she has secured 723 new members for the Chamber of Commerce. She lives in the home place located at 205 North Church Street, one of the old historical Victorian homes of McKinney. It was built in 1887 with square headed nails, with lumber hauled by mule train from Jefferson, Texas. it is trimmed with intricate gingerbread work and there are numerous outstanding features of this gracious home.
Leon Oliver Moses was born at Lampasas, Texas October 9, 1900. He attended school there and graduated from McKinney High School. He then entered Baylor University at Waco, graduating in law. He practiced for a brief time in Idalou, Texas, then moved to Post, Texas and was elected to serve two terms as County Attorney of Garza County. He then returned to McKinney, Texas and served four years as Assistant District Attorney under District Attorney W. C. Dowdy of Collin County. He then served four years as Assistant Attorney General under Attorney General William McCraw. At the end of this time he was employed by the Texas Wholesale Liquor Dealers Association as general attorney, which place he held until he was made States Attorney of O. P. A. with headquarters at Fort Worth, Texas. He later moved to McKinney, Texas, and formed a law partnership with Luther Truett under the name of Moses & Truett, Attorneys at Law. He died in March of 1969 and is buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery, McKinney, Texas. He married Miss Lucile Kerby of McKinney, Texas, on July 19, 1924 and to this union two children were: Billy June, and Sandra, the latter dying in infancy.
Allie Florine Gateley was born in Lampasas, Texas, on February 4, 1904. She attended school at Lampasas, Rogers, and graduated from the McKinney High School. She worked several years in Dallas as a secretary before marrying John R. Gateley. They were the parents of two children: Sharon Lynn Gateley and John R. Gateley, Jr., They were later divorced and she became associated with Neiman Marcus Company in Dallas where she remained until retirement.
Mary Christine Moses was born in Lampasas, Texas on October 27, 1906. She attended schools at Lampasas, Rogers and McKinney, Texas, where she graduated. She became a secretary and worked for many years for the late. Hon. W. R. Abernathy. Attorney-at-law, in McKinney. Later she worked at the Ashurn General Hospital at McKinney, then moved to Austin, Texas where she was employed in the Social Security Office. She married R. M. Stidham.
Norine Moses (better known as "Bill") was born in Lampasas, Texas, on June 10, 1909. She attended schools in Lampasas and Rogers and graduated from McKinney High School in 1927. She then entered Baylor School of Nursing at Dallas, Texas, graduating as a registered nurse in 1930. later she was made supervisor at Cooke Memorial Hospital, Fort Worth, Texas, where she met her husband to be - Gentry Warren Stuart. They were married in McKinney on September 29, 1933. Dr. Cozad officiating. They were the parents for four children.
