Helen Gibbard
GIBBARD, HELEN
Biography.
Helen Gibbard was raised in Durant, Oklahoma. On July 15, 1936, she married Roy Franklin Hall. Roy Hall was a son of Stuart Holland Hall and Annie Thompson, and a great-grandson of J. B. Wilmeth. He was raised north of McKinney next to the Wilmeth homestead. He was a veteran of World War I, where he rose to the rank of captain.
Captain Roy Hall was a newspaper man and a historian. He wrote columns for the McKinney Courier-Gazette and the McKinney Examiner. He wrote the Over Collin County: On the Wing column and others about the history of Collin County. He collected information and history on Collin County with the idea that he would publish a book on the county. The book, Collin County:Pioneering in North Texas, was published after his death with the authors listed as Roy and Helen Gibbard Hall.
Helen Hall shared her husband’s interest in the history of Collin County. She wrote a column for the McKinney Daily Courier-Gazette entitled “Historical Vignettes” for many years. She was a charter member of the Collin County Historical Commission, the Collin County Historical Society, and the Heritage Guild in McKinney. She was in charge of obtaining Historical Markers for the county for many years. She served as a docent at the Collin County Museum at the old Post Office for many years.
Helen and Roy Hall were the parents of the following children: Sidney Anne, Roy Franklin, Jr., Nancy, David, and Stan. They resided on Barnes Street in McKinney. In 1999 their 100+ year-old house burned, destroying many of the photographs and other things in their history collection. She is currently writing a history of McKinney.
