Funeral services for Walter S. Commons, 82, of McKinney, who died Sunday in a Whitewright Nursing Home, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Horn-Harris-Crouch Chapel with the Revs. Jim Puckett and John McClellan officiating. Interment will be in pecan Grove Cemetery with Horn-Harris-Crouch Funeral Home in charge of the services.
Commons was born Sept. 8, 1904 in McKinney, the son of Andrew Jackson Commons and Nora Fielder Commons, and married Dorothy Denton, Sept. 4, 1927 in Plano.
He was a retired parts man for Southwestern Automotive in Dallas. Commons was a member of the First Baptist Church of McKinney, St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 51, Hagi Chapter No. 53, Hagi Council No. 38, McKinney Commandery No. 34 32nd Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Hella Temple Shrine.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of McKinney; two brothers: John W. Commons of McKinney, Virgil Commons of DeSoto; two sisters: Lois Mangrum and Fannie Lee Hutton, both of Dallas; as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
