Richard G. (Dickie) Crutcher, 25, was found fatally wounded late Friday morning just outside the McKinney American Legion Hall.
Charges of “murder with malice aforethought” were filed in justice of peace court at 11 a.m. Saturday by District Attorney Tom Ryan naming James Edward Lee, 22-year old Collin county man.
McKinney Police Chief Bobby McPeak said his department received the call at 11:50 p.m. Friday and when Lt. Joe Stewart arrived at the scene, he found young Crutcher lying on the south side of the hall’s parking area.
Crutcher was rushed to the Collin County Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival at 12:10 a.m. Saturday.
Charges have been filed in District Attorney’s Tom Ryan’s office of murder with malice aforethought against James Edward Lee.
Judge Jack Cope ordered an autopsy to remove the bullet, which is necessary for legal reasons.
Few people in the American Legion were aware of the tragedy which took place just outside the hall.
Crutcher was born in McKinney April 27, 1946, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Crutcher and spent his lifetime in Collin County.
He was the grandson of the late J. L. (Uncle Joe) Crutcher, one of the pioneers of Collin County and a large landowner just west of McKinney on Rock Hill Road. His father resides on Rock Hill Road also.
The Crutcher family is held in high esteem by Collin County residents
