THE GRAY FAMILY

Joe B. Gray came to Collin County from Alabama as a young man in 1887. His father, William S. Gray followed him in 1890. Other members of the family came in 1893. All settled in South Collin Co. Joe B. Gray married Miss Tennie Eldridge of near Plano. He and his family came to Lucas area in 1907. Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Gray were the parents of seven children: J. B. Jr., Clarence, Roy E., Floyd K., Musa, Mable and Bernice. All the children attended the Lucas school.
J. B. Jr. married Lilly Anderson of Wylie; Clarence married America Snider and they continued to live in Lucas for a time. Roy E. married Miss Tillie Williams of Allen; Floyd K. married Annis Boyd of Allen. (He is a member of a quartet in Dallas and is a radio and TV personality.) Musa married Earl Cook, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Cook of Lucas. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cook own and live on part of the farm which belonged to his grandfather, Johnathon H. Cook, early-day settler of Lucas area. The Earl Cooks have a daughter, Erin, who lived in Lucas until her marriage to Joe Henry Leach of Allen. They now live in McKinney They have one son, Larry, who lives in Houston. Mable Gray married Joe Knight (deceased) of this area. They have one daughter, LaVerne. Mrs. Knight lives in Garland. Bernice Gray married Clyde Biggs of Lucas. Most of their married life was spent in Denton Co. After Clyde’s death Bernice returned to Lucas and established a home near her sister, Mrs. Earl Cook, where she lived until her death in April 1963. They were the parents of four children, none of whom lived in Lucas.
Mrs. Earl Cook died Dec. 11, 1973.
