THOMAS BARNES FAMILY

Thomas Barnes, son of Shadrack Barnes, was born in Madison County, Kentucky in 1804. He married Susan Ann Field of Albemarle County, Virginia and first settled in Cooper County, Missouri. In 1852 he moved to Collin County and homesteaded 640 acres of land near the present town of Prosper. He died in 1866. His wife died in McKinney in 1906 at age 91 years. They had 10 children: William G.,1835; Phillip 1836; Henry C. 1837 - 1925; Sally, l839; Mary, 1842; Thomas, 1843; John G. M., 1847, Medora, 1849; Robert, l851; and Jesse,1858; the last two born in Texas.
1.) William G. Barnes married Ann Crim (1839 Kentucky) and to this union were born three children, William G., Sue James (married Hormy Dawson), and Clifford Barnes.
2.) Phillip Barnes served in Company I, 9th Texas Infantry during the Civil War, having enlisted in McKinney.
3.) Henry C. Barnes married Frances Jane Field, October 13, 1847, in Missouri and died July 6, 1925 in Collin County. They were the parents of 12 children.
a.) Nannie (October 20, 1865) married Robert C. Kimbrough of Tennessee in McKinney May 6, 1890. They were the parents of two children Robert Cook Kimbrough Jr. and Mary.
i.) Mary Kimbrough has always been active in all cultural pursuits of McKinney and Denton where she lived. Robert Jr. married Leona Morris of Denton and lives in Ennis, Texas.
ii.) Robert C. Kimbrough III married Edna Gibson of Denton and now lives in Ft. Worth. Virginia Kimbrough, daughter of Robert Jr. married Thomas H. Briscoe of Krum, Texas and lives in Denton.
b.) Edward Barnes, second child of Henry C. and Frances Kimbrough was born November 17, 1867 and died in Sulphur, Oklahoma 1950.
c.) Joseph Wood Barnes (January 26, 1870) married Florence Largent at McKinney in 1897. He died August 5, 1924. They had two children, Joseph Wood Barnes Jr. and Rosabel Barnes.
d.) The fourth child, Nola Barnes, who was born January 16, 1872, and married John R. Chitwood at Ardmore, Oklahoma. They had one child, Ethel who married Claude Benton and they have one child, Douglas. Douglas married Evelyn Febring and they have two children.
e. James Barnes (February 25, 1875) married Lucille Ferguson of Sulphur. They have three children Houston (1911), Rosa Jean (1925), and Herbert (1928).
f.) The sixth child, Josie Barnes (September 2, 1877) married Montague Kingston Brown of London, England.
g.) The seventh child, Lillie Pearl Barnes, (July 10, 1880) married Paul B. Jones and lives in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
h.) The eighth chi1d, Margaret Barnes married George Hurt and lived in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
i.) The ninth, Rosa Barnes, (December 1, 1884) married Gene Hurt.
j.) The tenth child, Claudine Barnes, lives in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
k.) The eleventh child, Jeanette Barnes, (March 2, 1859) married Walter Strong.
l.) The twelfth child, Thomas J. Barnes, (May 4, 1892) never married.
4.) Sally Barnes, born August 20, 1839 in Boonville, Missouri, and the grandmother of Mrs. Richard (Vivian Hill) Bass came to Texas in 1852 with her parents, Thomas and Susan Ann Field Barnes. On January 1, 1856 she married Samuel H. Fox (born 1836 in Missouri). They lived for several years on their farm nine miles west of McKinney, later moving to McKinney. Samuel H. Fox died April 24, 1921 and Sally Barnes died June 6, 1925 at age 85. They are both buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. They were the parents of 14 children.
a.) Cora Isabelle ( December 1, 1856 - December 8, 1858).
b.) Charles T. (Tobe) March 6, 1858 - December 2, 1937)
c.) Frances (Fanny) Fox September 9, 1860 - November 8, 1927). She married Wicliffe Graves who was born December 6, 1848 in Johnson County, Missouri. They had 6 children, Bertie, Iva, Charles, Wicliffe, Jesse G., Lucretius Harrison, and Roy Leighton.
i.) Charles Wycliffe Graves married Helen Horn, daughter of the Rev. R.C. Horn, pioneer preacher of Collin County. Helen Horn Graves lives on Graves Street in McKinney and has two children, Rebecca Graves (married Francis Taylor) and Charles Wicliffe Graves Jr. who married Frances Taylor and they are the parents of three children, James, Robert, and Helene.
ii.) Jesse G. Graves married Mary Ann Duffey September 29, l909 and settled on his land near Allen, Texas. They have three children, James (1912), Madelina (1914) who married Loren Wilder, and Mary Ann (1921) who married Quinn L. Allen, live in Dallas and are parents of one son, John Quinn Allen.
iii.) Lucretius "Creash" Graves (December 22, 1891) married Evelyn Waters and was the parents of two children, Pearl Waters Graves who married Porter Cochran and L. H. Graves Jr. who married Catherine Lee Conroy and had two children, Phyllis Evelyn and Timothy Harrison Graves.
iv.) Roy Leighton Graves (September 2, 1894) married Gladys Johnson of McKinney and had three children, Amelia, Gladys Leighton, and Roy Jr.
d.) Mary "Mollie" Fox (September 10, 1862) married Joseph Mahlon Ware on September 22, 1881. They made their home on Tucker Street. Both are buried
in Pecan Grove Cemetery. They had four children.
i.) Samuel Ernest Ware (July 17, 1882 - July 18, 1884)
ii.) Lura Ware (February 10, 1884) married Albert Brandon Mayhew (1879-1947). They had one child, Martha Brandon.
iii.) William Franklin Ware (December 22, 1885) was for many years an employ of the City of McKinney.
iv.) Earl Fox Ware (May 25, 1889) married Josephine Burger.
e.) George Fox died in infancy.
f.) George Fox (March 31, 1867 in Collln County) married Lula Lilliard (1870-1919). They made their home on North College Street in McKinney, and they were the parents of three children, Louise, Grace, and Maude. After the death of his first wife he married Mrs. Annie Taylor. George W. Fox died October 26, 1924. Grace Fox married Edgar McKinney and lived on College Street in McKinney. They had two sons, George Fox and John Edgar. George Fox McKinney married Norma Turner of Dallas and has one daughter, Shonnye. John Edgar McKinney married Martha Nell Baker of Dallas and they have two children, Rebecca and John Edgar Jr. Maude Fox married Titus J. Furr and has two children, Titus James, Jr, and Sarah Jane.
g.) Lura Fox ( May 21, 1869-September 19, 1869).
h.) Lillian Fox, born in Collin County October 10, 1871, married William R. Hill on November 4, 1891, who was born in Collin County in January 31, 1868. They made their home in McKinney and Dallas. They were the parents of Vivian Hill who married Richard D. Bass.

4.) Sally Barnes, born August 20, 1839 in Boonville, Missouri, and the grandmother of Mrs. Richard (Vivian Hill) Bass came to Texas in 1852 with her parents, Thomas and Susan Ann Field Barnes. Fox died April 24, 1921 and Sally Barnes died June 6, 1925 at age 85. They are both buried in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. They were the parents of 14 children.
