DEATH’S FREQUENT VISIT
Mother and Daughter Both Died Within Two days.
MRS. HALEY AND DAUGHTER
Home Near Murphy, This County
In Gloom and Sorrow
McKinney Courier-Gazette, December 11, 1903
Two sad deaths, that of mother and daughter, occurred this week near Murphy, this county. The deceased ladies were the wife and daughter of M. T. Haley of that community. Tuberculosis was the fatal malady which carried them both off within two days of each other.
Mrs. Haley, who was 55 years old died at 1:40 p. m., Monday, Dec. 7, and was buried next day in the Maxwell graveyard. A husband and the following children survive her: Misses Eula and Effie, and Mrs. R. C. Wilson, Willie and Claude Haley, also Mrs. Will Mosley who survived her only two days. She was a consistent member of the Murphy Baptist church. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and kind neighbor.
Mrs. Will Moseley, nee Miss Dona Haley, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning Dec. 9, at 7 o’clock at the home of her father-in-law, Gil Mosley, near Murphy. As above stated, the deceased was a sufferer from consumption. She had not been bed-ridden but two or three days, in fact only last Sunday she was able to be taken in a buggy from her home to that of her father-in-law’s where she died. Her sudden demise, following so closely that of her mother’s, overwhelmed the family and friends with grief. Her remains were laid to rest last evening by the side of the new-made grave of her mother, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing friends. She, too, was a member of the Murphy Baptist church. Rev. W. T. Newsome, of Lucas, conducted both funeral services. Another daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haley’s, Mrs. Tot England, died in September from the same disease which also cut short the promising career of her husband. Prof. Tot England, only a few months before.
