McMILLEN CEMETERY - MURPHY

 Comfort Allen McMillen and his wife Lydia Maxwell came to Collin County in 1845 and settled in the Murphy area in January of 1846. They helped start the Corinth Presbyterian Church in Parker in 1846. It is believed to be the first church in Collin County. The church is still in operation. Their son, W. A. "Andy" McMillen, is said by some to be the first white child born in Collin County on March 8, 1847. I have heard of other families claiming that distinction. Certainly there were children born before then since the settlers started arriving in 1844.

The cemetery is unfenced and is being maintained. It is surrounded by cedar trees. Some vandalism is evident. The cemetery was deeded to the Corinth Presbyterian Church in Parker with the deed listed in Vol 149, p 16. It is for 1 ¾ acres. The cemetery was south of the old McMillen homeplace. It seems to be make no difference whether McMillen is spelled with an "e" or an "a".

The cemetery is located on Mapsco, p 661, Q, and is mislabeled as the Maxwell/ Old Decatur Cemetery. That cemetery is about 1 mile south of the McMillen Cemetery and is called the Maxwell/Murphy Cemetery.
