E. E. HOLT
Democrat, April 28, 1898
Church Demolished.
Esq. E. E. Holt of Blue Ridge was in the city Saturday and informed a DEMOCRAT reporter that a small cyclone visited his section of the county early Friday morning. The Baptist church was blown from its blocks and almost totally wrecked. J. P. Nevils rent house and smokehouse and E. M. Cox’s barn were blown down. The family of Bob White living one mile north of the Ridge had a narrow escape from being killed by the lightning which struck their home. The chimney was knocked down and the rocks thrown in every direction killing a dog. We also learn that king Anderson’s blacksmith shop at Lebanon was blown off its foundation. The storm occurred about 3 o’clock Friday morning and accompanied by the heaviest hail of the season and some rain. About noon Friday another cloud came up with some rain and wind. At Pike in the northeast portion of the county this twister blew a storehouse, damaging considerably its contents – a grocery. Outbuilding and fences were wrecked.
