CHARLES LANE DENNIS was born November 2,1851, the oldest son of William Calvin and Nancy Jane (1879-1931) Dennis. He married Elender Texas Dyer, (daughter of Calvin Harrison Dyer, 1810 and Emily Duval, 1819) who was born February 26,1849 in Albany, Kentucky. There were 2 sons: Thomas Van, 1870 and Leonidus “Lon”, 1872; and 4 daughters: Emily Jane, 1877; Ida Ann, 1880; Lola Monte, 1883; and Nancy Maude, 1889. All of the children were born in Kentucky. Charles and Elender eloped on horseback after attending a dance. Both of them were Presbyterians and Charles was a Mason. Elender’s mother was Emily Duval of Duval Valley, Kentucky, which is near Albany, Kentucky (Clinton County), and at this date it is still referred to as Duval Valley. Charles passed away May 3,1922 and is buried in the Melissa Cemetery, Melissa, Texas. His wife, Elender, lived to be 98½ years old. She died on March 2,1947 and is buried also in the Melissa Cemetery, Melissa, Texas.
A. THOMAS VAN DENNIS and Mattie Neeley were united in marriage in the Presbyterian Church of Melissa in Collin County, Texas. They met in a church sing along. Both he and his wife sang in the church choir and Thomas was known to be a beautiful tenor. Often, Sunday dinners included the local pastor and time around the piano singing hymns.
After 1920 the family resided in the Alla Community, north of Celina, Texas where Thomas farmed. There were 14 children born to this union and all but the oldest graduated from the Alla Hubbard Endowed School. Thomas Van died in 1934.
a. ONA was born October 4, 1896, in Bolivar, Denton County, Texas. Ona married Charles D. Wood and they were parents of 3 children. Ona passed away in Oklahoma City on September 29,1976 and Charles passed on July 29, 1981 also in Oklahoma City.

Both Charles and his wife Opal, were in the Eastern Star. He was a farmer and a Mason. Charles passed away June 9,1972, his wife lives in Celina, Texas.

d. ALTA was born March 19, 1903 in Bolivar, Denton County, Texas. Alta and Buford Thompson were married September 12, 1920. Both are members of the Methodist Church in McKinney, Texas, where Alta was a church pianist. Alta died in 1982. They have one daughter.

e. MONTA was born February 8,1905. Monta and W.C. Miller were married in 1922 and are parents of one daughter. Monta passed away August 30, 1966 and is buried in Cottage Hill Cemetery near Celina, Texas. They were members of the First Christian Church in Celina.
1. BILLIE MAUREEN was born on January 19,1926. She is married to Johnny Rothfus. Billie is a piano teacher. They are parents of one daughter.
f. EDDITH was born June 21, 1907 in Texas. Eddith married John C. Stambaugh in 1925. John was born July 15,1904 in Texas. Eddith was a pianist for many years at the Baptist Church in Celina, where she and her husband were members. She was laid to rest in Cottage Hill Cemetery, near Celina, Texas, on August 26, 1980. John died Sept. 23, 1982 and was burned in Celina, Texas. Eddith and John had 3 children.
g. HELEN was born in March of 1910 in Krum, Denton County, Texas. Helen was 3 months old when she passed away in May of 1910.
h. EVELYN was born February 26, 1911 in Krum, Denton county, Texas. Evelyn and her husband Clint Franklin Carey, were married August 28, 1928. Evelyn passed away July 21, 1981 and Clint Carey Sr. lives alone in Prosper, Texas. They were the parents of 2 sons.
i. THEODORE was born March 31, 1915 in Krum, Denton County, Texas. Theodore “Ted” was a construction contractor and deacon of Park Cities Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. His wife, Bessie Kindle was a teacher’s aide and tour guide. Tex died in 1981. They are the parents of 2 children;
j. HOMER VAN was born February 9,1917 in Godley, Johnson County, Texas. Homer Van and Ann Hodges, both members of the Baptist Church were married in August, 1946. Homer served in the Army and was with American troopers in the invasion of Normandy. He passed away August 23, 1968 in Dallas, Texas.
k. WILLIE MAE was born May 9,1919 in Chambersville, Collin County, Texas. Willie Mae tied the knot with Roscoe Renfro. They resided in Houston, Texas until her death in 1983 and were members of the First Christian Church. The had 2 children:

B. LEONIDUS (LON) S. DENNIS was born on March 23,1872 in Albany, Clinton County, Ky. On September 19, 1897 Lon and Mattie Frances Snider (who was born on January 20, 1881 in Rheas Mill of Collin County, TX.) were married in the Methodist Church. There were 3 sons and 7 daughters born to them, all born in Texas. Lon was a farmer all his life in the state of Texas. Lon had a falling out with his brother, Thomas Van, over a partial payment in corn and for many years they were not reconciled. The family contracted Typhoid Fever in 1906, which caused the death of their 3 year old son, Herman Brown. The fever was believed to be caused by a shallow well near a creek. Lon was named after the Confederate General Leonidas Polk who captured Columbus, Kentucky, September 3,1861. Lon died April 4,1952 and is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery in McKinney, Texas. Mattie died June 23, 1962 and is buried in the same cemetery.
a. AFY was born November 18, 1898. Afy and Charles R. Greaves, Jr. were married January 14, 1923. Divorced in 1926. No children. On February 26,1933 Afy and Simeon “Sim” Hassler were married in the Methodist Church, Caldewell, Texas by Rev. Warner E. Hassler, a cousin. Sim died in San Francisco, California of a cerebral hemorrhage, December 30, 1939 while he and Afy were visiting there. He was buried in the Mausoleum at Berkeley, California. May 3,1941 Afy married Oswald “Mack” Powell in the chapel of the Austin Avenue Methodist Church, Waco, Texas. “Mack” was killed in an auto accident June 25,1955 and buried in the Marlin Cemetery, Marlin, Texas. Afy was employed by Word, Incorporated of Waco, Texas, a distributor of Christian literature and books as well as records and cassettes. She worked in different areas of the company and retired as a supervisor of the return department in 1976 after 18 years. She lives alone in Waco, Texas.
b. GRACE was born October 5,1900. Grace married Charles Henry Burton June 16,1925 and they had 3 children. Charles Burton, Sr. passed away October 12, 1955. In May of 1975 Grace married General Alfred Martin. They are both active in Senior Citizens in Lubbock, Texas teaching Arts and Crafts. They are also active members in their church. The children of Grace and Charles Henry Burton are:
1. CHARLES HENRY, JR. born August11, 1926 in Lubbock, Texas who became a rockhound and motorcycle racer. He died July 22, 1971 in Lubbock, Texas and is buried there.

d. VIRGIL SNIDER was born September 5. 1905. Virgil Snider was given his mother’s maiden name. His first wife was Eunice Decker, whom he married on September 27, 1924. Two children were born. Eunice passed away August 30, 1930. June 5, 1944, Virg married Bonnie Wanda Brown. Virgil passed away May 10. 1978.
1. DOROTHY LEA, born August 5, 1925 married on June 12, 1943 to Lloyd M. Rogers. Lloyd was on a week end pass from Camp Howze. Texas when they were married. Dorothy worked for Monoe Photo Studio in McKinney, Texas. Lloyd and Dorothy reside in Pensacola, Florida where they own and run a gift shop and also make ceramics. They have 4 children. Lloyd retired from Westinghouse as of June 21, 1981.
2. BILLY RAY, the second child of Virgil and Eunice. Served in the Army in Korea and died of a heart attack on January 3, 1963 in Korea.
e. MYRTLE was born October 22, 1907. Myrtle married Orville M. Lindsay. No children. She passed away, June 20. 1930, in Amarillo, Texas of a fever (unknown origin) and is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Rhea Mills, Texas.
f. MARY ELLEN was born April 18, 1910. Mary Ellen lived one month.
g. THELMA was born April 18,1911. Thelma served in World War II as a Registered Nurse in the Army Nurses Corp. 56th Evacuation Hospital 5th Army Corp., Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; served 29 months in Italy and Africa and was decorated with the Bronze Star by General Mark Clark. After her discharge from the Army, she married Elmer James. No children. She passed away in San Francisco, California, September 11, 1953 and was buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Rhea Mills, Texas.
h. ALLA MAUDE was born March 14,1914. Alla Maude married Allen Swinscoe September 7, 1941. They have one daughter, Mary Alla. Mr. Swinscoe passed away July 3, 1963. Alla Maude married Daryl L. Welch, September 17, 1966. Daryl served in the 5th Army Corp. in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Both Alla Maude and her daughter, Mary Alla, are Past Matrons of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 930 of Whitney, Texas.

i. CHARLES WENDELL was born September 9,1916. Charles Wendell served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. in the Pacific during World War II. He was inducted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana in April, 1942. He was discharged as a Technical Sergeant at Fort Bliss, Texas on January 2,1946. He was married on December 21, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Leodora Gwen Alsup, who served with the 5th Army Corp. as a Registered Nurse during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. One son and one daughter was born to this union.
Charles Wendel started his business, Union Sling Company, Dallas, Texas in 1951. Union Sling Company is a manufacturer of slings and associated devices for lifting loads such as steel beams for high rise buildings and mosaic concrete members for buildings.
j. MILDRED RUTH was born September 1,1919. Mildred Ruth married Lowell W. Monroe on July 23, 1945 and they have one son, Robert Mallory. Mildred is a Registered Nurse and has lived in Medford, Oregon and White City, Oregon since her marriage to “Bill” Monroe. They have 3 children.

a. WILFORD MERVIN was born on November 1,1898. He was nicknamed “Mug”. He married Mary Lucille Gililland on October 25, 1934. Wilford passed away February 19, 1976.

e. MILDRED INEZ was born March 20, 1912. On July 3, 1938 Mildred Inez was married to Drew Clifton. No children. Drew Clifton started Conchas Dam in New Mexico. He was sent by the United States Government to help residents of Quade County, New Mexico grow boom corn and cotton. He hauled alfalfa from the Imperial Valley in California to feed 15,000 head of cattle brought into New Mexico to help start a good line of beef cattle. He was the first aide to help set up a Soil Conservation Department in Quade County, New Mexico This was only the 2nd Conservation Department in the United States. He worked in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico obtaining a law degree in between. After he and Inez were married they settled in Texas where he is now a retired County Judge serving Fort Worth, Texas. He is still called in on special cases. Both of them are active members of the Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Inez sings in the choir.
f. ELLEN LUCILLE was born September 1, 1914. She married George Benjamin Howard September 25, 1942.
E. LOLA MONTE was born October 22, 1883 in Clinton County, Kentucky. She married Willard Reheau Huddleston (born December 1, 1878 in Tennessee Died May 2, 1937) on November 8, 1903. They lived for many years in Collin County, Texas as farmers. Lola Monte died in 1969 and both her and her husband are buried at Celina. They had 6 children, with one dying at infancy.

F. NANCY MAUDE was born February 24, 1889 in Kentucky. She was named for her Aunt Nancy Anna (Dennis) Coleman. She and her husband Charles Thorton Dickenson, were married June 25,1916. They owned a grocery store in Waco, but after her husband’s death on November 30, 1964, she sold it. Charles Thorton Dickenson was buried in Waco Memorial Park, Waco, Texas. Nancy Maude loved to watch television, especially the Dallas Cowboys. They were parents of 3 sons all born in Texas.
a. LEO RAY was born May 25, 1915. Leo Ray and Serna E. Brenner were married and had one son. Both father and son are printers with the Rochelle Printing company in Rochelle, Illinois, where Leo is Vice President.

2. FRANK DENNIS BURTON was born August 19,1931. in Amarillo, Texas and married to Mary Alice Stubbs on June 15, 1951 and they have 5 children.

c. HERMAN BROWN was born May 31, 1903. Herman Brown lived to be 3 years old and passed away October 22, 1906 of Typhoid Fever.
d. VIRGIL SNIDER was born September 5. 1905. Virgil Snider was given his mother’s maiden name. His first wife was Eunice Decker, whom he married on September 27, 1924. Two children were born. Eunice passed away August 30, 1930. June 5, 1944, Virg married Bonnie Wanda Brown. Virgil passed away May 10. 1978.
1. DOROTHY LEA, born August 5, 1925 married on June 12, 1943 to Lloyd M. Rogers. Lloyd was on a week end pass from Camp Howze. Texas when they were married. Dorothy worked for Monoe Photo Studio in McKinney, Texas. Lloyd and Dorothy reside in Pensacola, Florida where they own and run a gift shop and also make ceramics. They have 4 children. Lloyd retired from Westinghouse as of June 21, 1981.
2. BILLY RAY, the second child of Virgil and Eunice. Served in the Army in Korea and died of a heart attack on January 3, 1963 in Korea.
e. MYRTLE was born October 22, 1907. Myrtle married Orville M. Lindsay. No children. She passed away, June 20. 1930, in Amarillo, Texas of a fever (unknown origin) and is buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Rhea Mills, Texas.
f. MARY ELLEN was born April 18, 1910. Mary Ellen lived one month.
g. THELMA was born April 18,1911. Thelma served in World War II as a Registered Nurse in the Army Nurses Corp. 56th Evacuation Hospital 5th Army Corp., Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; served 29 months in Italy and Africa and was decorated with the Bronze Star by General Mark Clark. After her discharge from the Army, she married Elmer James. No children. She passed away in San Francisco, California, September 11, 1953 and was buried in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Rhea Mills, Texas.
h. ALLA MAUDE was born March 14,1914. Alla Maude married Allen Swinscoe September 7, 1941. They have one daughter, Mary Alla. Mr. Swinscoe passed away July 3, 1963. Alla Maude married Daryl L. Welch, September 17, 1966. Daryl served in the 5th Army Corp. in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. Both Alla Maude and her daughter, Mary Alla, are Past Matrons of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 930 of Whitney, Texas.

i. CHARLES WENDELL was born September 9,1916. Charles Wendell served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. in the Pacific during World War II. He was inducted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana in April, 1942. He was discharged as a Technical Sergeant at Fort Bliss, Texas on January 2,1946. He was married on December 21, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Leodora Gwen Alsup, who served with the 5th Army Corp. as a Registered Nurse during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. One son and one daughter was born to this union.
Charles Wendel started his business, Union Sling Company, Dallas, Texas in 1951. Union Sling Company is a manufacturer of slings and associated devices for lifting loads such as steel beams for high rise buildings and mosaic concrete members for buildings.
j. MILDRED RUTH was born September 1,1919. Mildred Ruth married Lowell W. Monroe on July 23, 1945 and they have one son, Robert Mallory. Mildred is a Registered Nurse and has lived in Medford, Oregon and White City, Oregon since her marriage to “Bill” Monroe. They have 3 children.
C. EMILY JANE DENNIS was born October 10, 1876 in Kentucky. She married Elijah Francis Koger, who was born on December 17, 1871 and died on January 20, 1933. There were 12 children born to them, including 3 sets of twins:

D. IDA ANN was born February 27, 1879 in Albany, Clinton County, Kentucky. She married Henry Bert Jones on November 17, 1897 (Henry was born December 7, 1870 in Lawrence, Missouri and died on March 24, 1961 and is burned in Salem Cemetery, Alfa, Texas). There were 6 children born to Ida Ann and Henry Bert Jones. Ida Ann died on October 1, 1969 and burned in Salem Cemetery, Alba, Texas.
a. WILFORD MERVIN was born on November 1,1898. He was nicknamed “Mug”. He married Mary Lucille Gililland on October 25, 1934. Wilford passed away February 19, 1976.
b. OPAL DELMA was born on February 15,1901 and married Clarence Audy Phillips on December 27, 1917.
c. CHARLES LEE was born January 7,1903 and married Mildred Tucker on December 6,1927.
d. MAUDE AUBRIA was born July 17, 1909. On December 17, 1930, Maude Aubria was married to Farris Ferril Hill. They were parents of 2 children:
e. MILDRED INEZ was born March 20, 1912. On July 3, 1938 Mildred Inez was married to Drew Clifton. No children. Drew Clifton started Conchas Dam in New Mexico. He was sent by the United States Government to help residents of Quade County, New Mexico grow boom corn and cotton. He hauled alfalfa from the Imperial Valley in California to feed 15,000 head of cattle brought into New Mexico to help start a good line of beef cattle. He was the first aide to help set up a Soil Conservation Department in Quade County, New Mexico This was only the 2nd Conservation Department in the United States. He worked in and around Albuquerque, New Mexico obtaining a law degree in between. After he and Inez were married they settled in Texas where he is now a retired County Judge serving Fort Worth, Texas. He is still called in on special cases. Both of them are active members of the Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Inez sings in the choir.
f. ELLEN LUCILLE was born September 1, 1914. She married George Benjamin Howard September 25, 1942.
E. LOLA MONTE was born October 22, 1883 in Clinton County, Kentucky. She married Willard Reheau Huddleston (born December 1, 1878 in Tennessee Died May 2, 1937) on November 8, 1903. They lived for many years in Collin County, Texas as farmers. Lola Monte died in 1969 and both her and her husband are buried at Celina. They had 6 children, with one dying at infancy.
a. JASPER RAYMOND was born November 2,1904 and married Edith Howell in November 1924. They had one son, Billy Ray. Jasper was a successful farmer and deacon in the First Baptist Church of Celina until he passed away in July of 1972.
b. RUBY LEE was born July 21,1906 and married Willard Lovett on December 9,1925. Ruby passed away November 18, 1929.
c. CHARLES LINDLE was born October 24,1911. He married Lorene Sadler August 11, 1934. They are farmers and have one son.
d. WILMA LEVA was born August 31,1913 and married Ray Cooper in December 1935. She passed away September 15, 1969 at the age of 56, two weeks before her mother’s death. She had 2 children.
e. JOE HENRY was born January 12, 1915 and married Lorene French on January 18, 1936. Joe Henry joined Aunt Maude’s family in Waco, Texas, thinking of joining his uncle with the Interurban lines. They have one daughter and one son.
F. NANCY MAUDE was born February 24, 1889 in Kentucky. She was named for her Aunt Nancy Anna (Dennis) Coleman. She and her husband Charles Thorton Dickenson, were married June 25,1916. They owned a grocery store in Waco, but after her husband’s death on November 30, 1964, she sold it. Charles Thorton Dickenson was buried in Waco Memorial Park, Waco, Texas. Nancy Maude loved to watch television, especially the Dallas Cowboys. They were parents of 3 sons all born in Texas.
a. LEO RAY was born May 25, 1915. Leo Ray and Serna E. Brenner were married and had one son. Both father and son are printers with the Rochelle Printing company in Rochelle, Illinois, where Leo is Vice President.
b. CHARLES WILLIAM was born May 12,1918. He married Bertha I. Geldmeier on November 14, 1945 in Waco, Texas. Charles is President and General Manager of Waco Hardware, Waco, Texas. They had one daughter:
c. HOMER GLEN was born August 17,1921. He and Margaret E. Leonard were married on March 14,1945. He is salesman for Waco Hardware. Margaret teaches dentistry at Texas Technical College. They are the parents of 2 sons, both graduates of Baylor University, Waco, Texas.
