October 30, 1941
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. , Sr., of Plano, one of South Collin’s best known and highly esteemed couples, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at their home in Plano Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 o’clock. They held open house, when about 170 friends and neighbors called to extend them congratulations and to wish them many more years of happy married bliss.
Their children. Mrs. F. B. Agnew of Mesquite and J. Tom Brigham of Murphy were present, also Mrs. Alexa Brigham of Dallas, widow of Nelson A. Brigham, deceased. Two grandchildren were present, Miss Bobbie Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Agnew and John Thomas Brigham, son of J. Tom Brigham. Mrs. W. C. Garrett of Santa Anna, Texas, is Mr. Brigham’s only living sister.
Mr. Brigham‘s father, the late T. W. Brigham, came to Texas in 1858, settling on what is now called the Brigham farm, one mile East of Murphy. The first house was built in 1858, the lumber of which was carried from Jefferson, Texas, by ox wagon. This house was used until 1886, then it was razed and a new two-story house built on the same spot. In 1906 the present house was build by J. T. Brigham who retired from farming and moved to Plano.

Married in 1891
Mrs. Brigham is the former Miss Bernettie Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nelson. She was born in Wayne County, Ky., the family coming here 55 years ago and settling near Plano. She and Mr. Brigham were married October 25, 1891 at Murphy at her father’s house, the ceremony being performed by Rev. Baldridge, aged Presbyterian Minister. Mrs. Brigham has one living sister, Mrs. E. A. Haynes of Seymour, Texas, who was present at the Goldern Wedding Anniversary.
The Brighams are among Collin County’s most honoured and respected citizens and number their friends by their acquaintances. They are active members of the Plano Baptist Church, Mr. Brigham being a Deacon in the Church. He is also a Master Mason, being a longtime member of the Plano Lodge No. 768.
During the open house Sunday afternoon an interesting program was enjoyed with piano, saxophone and vocal music by Mesquite talent and an appreciated talk by Rev. W. T. ? of Plano.
The Brigham home, a pretty wooden structure, was lovely for the occasion. Friends signed in a register book. Tempting refreshments were served the guests who called.
Among the guests present were several from McKinney, who took occasion to extend to this honoured couple felicitations and wishes for many more years of happy wedded life together.
