CHRISTIAN, JOHN W.
John W. Christian, born in 1844 in Tennessee, came to Collin County at age 18. He lived for 3 years with Indians. He married Missouri Warden of Blue Ridge and settled on the farm in Lucas community now owned by his grandson, Wallace Christian. The John W. Christians had 3 sons, Gabe William, Fred and Ernest and one daughter, Pearl. G. W. (Gabe William) who continued to live on the homeplace here, married Carrie E. Actkinson. They were the parents of 4 daughters and a son. As stated above the son, Wallace Christian, who married Gloria Staton of Farmersville, owns and lived on the place. They have two daughters: Suzanne (Mrs. David Calton) and Charlotte (Mrs. Kenneth) Dean. Both of whom have homes on this farm.
The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Christian: Ethlyn (deceased) married Leon Snavely; Lucille, whose first husband was the late Gobel Riffe. A son, Jerry Riffe, was born to this union and lives in California. Later Lucille married Ed Coffey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Coffey, of Lucas. Ed Coffey and his parents are deceased. The other daughters are Hazel and Willie Pearl. Hazel married the late Roy Miller and Willie Pearl Christian married Forest Gaines. They have two daughters and live in south Texas. Both Lucille and Hazel live in McKinney.
John William Christian owned 3 farms, two of which are still in the family, owned by grandsons.
Suzanne and David Calton’s two children, Bryan and Deidra, and Charlotte and Kenneth Dean’s daughter, Melanie, are the fifth generation to live on the land settled by their great, great grandfather, John W. Christian.

COLLIN COUNTY CONFEDERATE IN THE LAST BATTLE

John W. Christian, Collin pioneer citizen and Confederate soldier living on his farm in the Lucas community, was born December 15, 1844, in Cocke county, Tenn.
He was reared on the farm, and when a mere youth of 17, the Civil war broke out. He enlisted in his native county in Co. F, 5th Tennessee cavalry and fought with the Southern troops throughout the war. He participated in the last battle of the war, which was fought in Bentonville, North Carolina.
The next year after the war closing he came to Texas and married Miss Missouri Warden, daughter of the late Sheriff Wms. Warden on April 2, 1876. They lived most happily together on their farm in the Lucas community until her death last March.
Their two living children are: Mrs. Ross H. Kerr of McKinney and G. w. Christian of Route 2, McKinney. One of their sons, Fred Christian, died when about grown a number of years ago.
