Great grandparents & grandparents of Clyde Flesher, Howe, Tex.
Jeremiah Vardaman and daughter Patsy Jane, and a bachelor brother John Trousdale came to Texas from Liberty, Kentucky the year 1853. Jeremiah, a widower and a carpenter by trade, settled on a farm between Anna and Melissa, Texas. It is thought the Highland Cemetery may be located on a part of this farm now.
Jeremiah Vardaman, born May 10, 1797, died soon March 28, 1854 and his remains lie in the old Throckmorton Cemetery west of Melissa. John Trousdale and his niece Patsy Jane went back to Kentucky, later Patsy Jane married Richard N. (Dick) Portman came back to Texas and settled near old Mantua. She reared a family of 13 children one whom still lives Mrs. Maggie (Portman) Sweeney, born July 8, 1870. Patsy Jane (Vardaman) Portman and husband Richard N. Portman are buried near Anna, Texas in the Highland Cemetery.

George Adam Flesher and two brothers John and Henry came to Texas the year 1880 from Terre-Haute, Indiana. The three brothers bought a farm together in the Mantua Community southwest of Van Alstyne, Texas. Later John and Henry sold out to George.
George Adam Flesher was married Jan. 18, 1887 to Mary Ella Portman, lived and reared a family of five boys and three girls as follows: Mabel Clair, Virgil Ray, Preston Roy, Mamie Ethel, Montrose, Ralph Dewey, Pearl Irene and Clyde Spencer. Mabel Clair was 1st married to Allen Bryant. He died and she married Leslie Baker. Virgil Ray married Vera Spearman, Preston Roy married Margaret Baker. Mamie Ethel married Lemond Gregory. Ralph Dewey married Linnie Cribbs. Pearl Irene married Otho Murphy. Clyde Spencer married Ruby George. George Adam & Mary Ella Flesher were members of the Methodist church. Both are buried in the Van Alstyne City Cemetery, also their oldest son Virgil Ray Flesher.

Lucas (Luke) and Nancy (Forbes) George were married December 30th, 1840 at Lebanon, Tennessee, Wilson Co. came to Texas 1856 with 5 children, bought a tract of land out of the Wm. Rice Survey northwest of McKinney in the Vineland community where three more children were born. The eight children’s names are as follows: Elizabeth Jane married James E. Carruth of Weston. Jerry W. died at the age of 21, drowned in East Fork Creek near Chambersville on returning home from the Civil War 1864. His body was found a month later and removed by Elder R. C. (Bob) Horn. Jerman H. was married to Sally Reed of the Vineland community. Mead married Robert Weaver. Arthur married Mrs. America Carruth. Thomas A. married Jane Reed also of Vineland community. Mary married Joe Abe Alexander. Cantrel F. was 1st married to Jennie Nixon and 2nd marriage to Minerva Driver. Lucas (Luke) and Nancy George both died the same year of typhoid fever about 1867. Buried in Scott Cemetery.
