Evelyn E. Brown Hastings, 87, of Blue Ridge, died peacefully at her home at the beginning of a new day on Saturday.
Mrs. Hastings was born May 4, 1906, in Osceola, Neb., the daughter of Ernest John and Mary Helen Macken Brown. She married Charles D. Hastings on June 19, 1933. He preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1979.
She was a friend, mother and homemaker. She was a retired Deputy County Treasurer in Seward, Neb., a life member of Easter Star, an Osceola Alumni, and was active in AARP and numerous senior center activities. She never met a stranger. She put away her worldly things and followed her lifelong quest of traveling each new path to discover what wonders lay along the way and where it led.
Survivors include one sister, Elvera Wisely of Central Point, Ore.; her children, Marilyn Hastings of Durham, N. C., Richard and Elaine Hastings of Blue Ridge, Wayne and Barb Hastings of Livonia, Miss., James Kier of Philadelphia, Pa., and Ruth Ann Kier Root of Arlington, Va.; her grandchildren, John DeButy, Scott Hastings, Troy Hastings, and Christopher Hastings, all of Garland, Suzann Hughes of Bleiberville, Tim Hughes and Melissa Hughes Niedner, both of Seward, Neb., James Hastings of Dallas, Doreen Hastings of Rochester Hills, Miss., Ginger Hastings Moss of Frisco and Heather Hastings of Austin; three Great-grandsons, John Dean, Zachary Ryan and Duane Niedner, all of Seward, Neb.; and a host of friends and relations across America. We will all miss her.
