DEATH MRS. MARY JANE CHEATHAM NEAR MURPHY

Mrs. Mary Jane Cheatham, aged 87 years, 8 months and 17 days, died at her home, two miles northwest of Murphy, Monday morning at 8:15 o’clock after two years of declining health. She had resided on the same farm since 1876.
She was a daughter of Thomas M. and Martha (Gordon) Marsalis and was born and reared in Liberty, Miss. She was born on November 28, 1844. She was married in that state, her husband passing away in 1872. He was prominent in Masonic circles and for several years preceding his death was a Masonic lecturer.
They were the parents of five children, two of whom survive.
Following the death of her husband in Mississippi, Mrs. Cheatham and her children moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marsalis to Jackson, La. In 1875, her parents moved from Louisiana to Collin county. She had resided here since. Her father died in 1879 and her mother in 1884 and are all buried near Plano.
Funeral services for the deceased were held Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in the Murphy Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. E. B. Jackson, pastor of the South Wilcox Methodist Church, of this city.
