WILLIAM CORNELIUS ANDREWS
by Kay Steenerson
William was born September 2, 1819 in Tennessee and married in Fayetteville, Term, on September 16, 1841. His wife was Martha Ann Darnell, a 15 year old orphan. Both her father and grandfather served in the Revolutionary War, her family dating back to 1688 in America. She was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee June 26, 1825. She became the mother of 14 children, 8 sons and four daughters reaching adulthood.
After serving in the Confederate Army, William found life changed in Petersburg, Tennessee. In 1860 he had listed his pre-war assets as $20,940, and after the war they had shrunk in value to $5,400. Hoping to find a better future for his family they came by wagons to Collin County. It was a very large group that came since the older children now had families of their own. The family prospered in McKinney and they were well established by the time of William’s death in 1892. His wife died in 1897. Both are buried in the Horn Cemetery.
William and Mary Ann have hundreds of descendents in Collin County.
