SAMUEL R. BERRY
Family history.
Samuel R. Berry and two of his brothers came to McKinney with their slaves immediately after the Civil war. They gave the slaves their freedom but one of them stayed with the family until most of their younger children were young people.
Samuel Berry was born in 1830– August 28, and died in December 20, 1904. Mary Ellen Muse Berry died 1885. His two brothers never married. The original property owned by Sam Berry included the property now owned by the Pavillion Rest Home, and the Kings Barbecue across Highway 5, McKinney. Also some of the original property was sold to the Power Plant on Church St. south of the intersection. (1973)

VI. John W. Berry, sixth child of Sam and Mary Ellen, married Alta Elizabeth Bryan of Chambersville. To this union seven
children were born.
1) Marion Bryan Berry (Sep 1903) who married Mary Inez Ives. Three children: Sharron, Bryan Kent, and Allan John;
2) Mary Ellen Berry (1906) Roberts (Luther), who had 4 daughters; one was Virginia Ruth who married Harold Slaughter of Anna;
3) J. W. Berry (1909) who was twice married but no children.
4) Clarence Berry (Aug. 1911) who married Mary Norma Nichols (June 1915). No children.
5) Ruby Elsie Berry (December 14, 1913) who married Clovis M. Swanner (1912) and to whom were born Clovis Malcom Jr., who married Elizabeth Hutton of Tulsa.
6) Gladys Elizabeth Berry (Apr. 1915) who married Charles Kazen and had 3 children, Gladys Elizabeth, Charles, and Geralyn;
7) Buena Vista (Sept. 1917) who married Gerald Skrentner and are parents of Pamela, Robert, and Mary Margaret.
VII. Ethel married Dr. Saye - no issue
