WILLIAM HOLMES BALDRIDGE

William Holmes Baldridge was born 14 May 1805 in Lincoln County, North Carolina; died 15 May 1894 in Collin County, Texas; buried in Wylie Cemetery, Collin County, TX. He married (1) Nancy C. McDonald, 9 March 1830, in Maury County, TN; 5 children; married (2) Mrs. Jane E. Douglass Anderson, 20 Sept. 1859, in Alabama; 10 children. Jane had two children of a previous marriage to John L. Anderson.
William Holmes Baldridge was the son of Michael Baldridge and Isabella Lytle. He moved to Maury County, TN with his parents in 1815. He joined the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in 1829. He was licensed to preach, 24 March 1834, and was ordained by the Richland Presbytery, 22 March 1837. He spent a good portion of his early ministry as a circuit rider. He was pastor of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Nashville, TN in 1839 and 1840. Afterward, he organized the First Church in Columbia, TN. On account of Nancy C.’s health William Holmes moved his family to Lawrence County, Alabama in 1856. Their children were Sarah Justina, Frances Helen, Mary J., Nancy H. and a son. Nancy C. Baldridge died 7 June 1858 and is buried in the Rock Springs Presbyterian Cemetery in Mt. Hope, AL. William Holmes married a young widow, Mrs. Jane E. Douglass Anderson, 20 Sept. 1859, in Lawrence Co., AL. They had five sons and five daughters. He served as pastor of churches at Center Star, AL and Mt. Hope, AL until 1883. He and Jane and their young family moved to the southern part Collin Co., TX 18 Dec. 1883. In the first few years after coming to Texas he preached some in protracted meetings and attended church services as long as he was able. Both William Holmes and Jane are buried in Wylie Cemetery, Collin County, TX.

2.) Frances "Fannie" Helen - b. 7 Aug. 1834, TN; d. 5 Feb. 1913, Waco, TX; m. James Harvey McGaughey 28 Sept.1858, Lawrence Co., AL. Fannie graduated from Tennessee Conference Female College, Columbia, TN. and was a school teacher. Both are buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Waco, TX.
3.) Mary J.- b. abt. l842,TN.
4.) Nancy H. - b. about 1847, TN; d. 20 Sept. 1929, Wilbarger Co., TX; m. J. W. Kerr 10 Sept. 1885, Waco, TX; 1 child. Nancy H. was a school teacher. Both are buried in Vernon, TX.

3.) Maggie D. - b. Oct. 1863, AL; d. 18 July 1961, Bexar, TX; m. E. L. Hewell 16 Dec. 1885, Collin Co., TX.; 2 children. E. L. was a farmer near Nevada, TX. Both are buried in Nevada Cemetery, Nevada, TX.
4.) Robert F. - b. 21 Jun. 1865, AL; d. 26 Nov. 1947, Levelland, Hockley Co., TX; m. Lelia Herman; 3 children. Robert F. was a farmer in Hockley Co., TX. Both are buried in Levelland, TX.
5.) Susan "Sue" Elizabeth - b. abt. 1866, AL; d. 3 Oct. 1960, Denton, TX; m. B. E. Caskey 23 Dec. 1891, Collin Co., TX; 1 child. Bill was a carpenter & Sue ran a boarding house in Denton, TX
6.) Emma P. - b. 25 Mar 1867, AL; d. 15 Jan 1928, McKinney, Collin Co., TX; m. W. B. "Buck" Wilson 25 Apr. 1888, Collin Co., TX; 5 children. Emma was a school teacher and Buck was a druggist in McKinney, TX. Both are buried in Allen Cemetery, Collin Co., TX.
7.) Lenora - b. abt. 1869, AL; m. Oscar Arch Murphy 19 Sept. 1894, Collin Co. TX; 3 children. They were in the real estate business in Dallas in 1930s.
8.) Alice McDonald - b. 9 Jul. 1871, AL; d. 11 Feb. 1940, Wichita Falls, TX; m. James T. Shaver 24 Jun
1894, Collin Co., TX; 2 children. James T. was a building contractor in Wichita Fall, TX. Both are buried in Rosemont Cemetery, Wichita Falls, TX.
9.) George Oliver- b. Jan 1872 AL, d. 20 Sept. 1965, Bell Co., TX; m. Dorothy; no children. In 1927 George was a manager for A. M. Finck & Co. in Dallas, TX, later moved to California.
10.) Finis Ewing - b. 8 Dec. 1875, AL; d. 11 Aug. 1966, Bell Co., TX; m. Mary Ann Pace 21 Dec. 1914, Bell Co., TX; no children. Finis E. retired after forty five years as a conductor for Santa Fe Railroad. Both are buried in Bellwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Bell Co., TX.
