Of all the institutions of McKinney none commands the pride and good will of the people more than the Fire Department. Composed as it is of the very best men in the city, it has always been one of the best volunteer companies in the state, and has time and again done efficient service in the saving of life and property from the devastating flames.
The engine and hose company was organized Feb. 15, 1887. Charter granted 1887.
A. L. Jones was the first chief and had no assistant, but Henry Collins was foreman of Engine and Hose Company No. 1. T. F. Mangum was foreman of Hook and Ladder Company No. 1, and O. M. Goddard secretary of the McKinney Fire Department at that time. Sam Rudolph was secretary of Engine and Hose Company No. 1.
At the present time the officers are as follows:

These brave fire fighters have always been found at their posts of duty, ready to risk life itself if necessary to protect the property of McKinney citizens. It is needless to add that they have grown in popularity; it could not be otherwise.
The boys are preparing for their annual banquet, an event that is looked forward to with pleasure by all the members and quite a number of invited guests. The affair will take place sometime during the holidays.
The next meeting of the State Firemen’s Association will be held in this city, the day being set for the 8th, 9th, and 10th of next May. This is an event of more than usual importance, and was sought by quite a number of towns, many of them larger than McKinney.
