JOSEPH DICKERSON
Biography.
Joseph Dickerson, merchant and land owner, was born December 28, 1832 in Monroe County, Kentucky the son of a pioneer family in that section. His father died when Joseph was three years of age and he was reared by his mother.
The only education he received was in the county schools and after farming in Kentucky for many years he came to Plano, Texas in 1883 and entered the lumber business. After a few years he entered the grocery business which proved very successful and he later owned one of the largest general stores in that town.
In order to devote the majority of his time to investments he sold his store and spent the most of his time dealing with land notes until his death on July 1, 1918.
He married Mathilda Hays, a native of Kentucky, in Plano on February 28, 1883, who had come to Collin County many years previous to that of her husband.
