The Cody family moved to Texas from Tennessee after being burned out in the Civil War. They finally settled on 800 acres in Collin County where corn and cotton were raised. A 1927 tornado destroyed most of the original buildings but farm operations continued. John Maynard Cheek, Jr. is the great-grandson of the founder and grows cotton, wheat and grain sorghum on his 340 acres.
