COIT, MRS. HENRY
MRS. HENRY COIT DIES SATURDAY MORNING
Plano Star Courier, July 8, 1921
Mrs. Florence Graham Coit, wife of H. W. Coit, of Renner, died at a Dallas sanitarium Saturday morning, after an illness of several weeks.
The funeral services were held at the Frankford church at 2:30 Monday afternoon, Rev. C. T. Barron [?], a relative and editor of the Baptist Standard at Dallas, conducted the service. The attendance was utterly beyond the capacity of the church, embracing relatives and close family friends from many parts of Collin county and from outside the county. Many beautiful floral offerings attested the love of the sorrowing friends. The body was laid to rest in the Frankford cemetery.
Among the relatives and friends from outside the city who were in attendance at the funeral were: Miss Ruby Hildebrand, Sherman; Mr. and Mrs. John Coit, Denton; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Coit, Mr. and Mrs. Sterling, Waco; T. B. Hamer, Roff, Okla; Mrs. C. Fred Litton, Greenville; Miss Nancy Howell, Weatherford; Judge and Mrs. E. R. Howell, Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Barron, Miss Edna Thomas, Mrs. W. L. Campbell and daughters, Dallas; Rev. and Mrs. L. W. Rogers, South Dakota.
Mrs. Coit, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Routh, was born at the family home about 2 miles south of the city, November 16, 1869. Her father was among the first settlers of the Plano section. He purchased the land that is known as the Routh place in 1850, and came here the next year and lived on the place the remainder of his life. He founded the church known as the Spring Creek Baptist church, situated near his home, later donated the lot where the Plano Baptist church now stands, and moved the building to that site. He served as the first pastor of the church. The first store of Plano originally stood on a portion of the Routh estate.
Mrs. Coit was converted in 1883 during the revival conducted by Major W. E. Penn, an eminent Baptist evangelist, remembered by many of the older residents of Plano. She later joined the Baptist church and was a devoted and consecrated christian.
She was married to H. W. Coit December 28m 1889. They moved to Renner, and had lived at the same place continuously until her death.
She was a faithful, efficient and willing worker in the church, Sunday school, community betterment undertakings and will be sadly missed in all these spheres.
Mrs. Coit leaves besides her husband, five sisters, Mrs. J. N. Mendenhall, Mrs. J. M. Barron, Misses Clara and Rose Routh, of Plano, and Mrs. C. E. Malone of Haskell, and Mrs. J. M. Howell, of Weatherford, and the following children: Henry Coit, Mrs. L. W. Rogers, John, William, Richard and Routh Coit.
