Biography.
Martha Jane Beverley was born in 1854 in what was then a small settlement named Dallas. Here her father operated a mill on the Trinity River and served as a peace officer. He had several brothers and sisters who settled in or near Dallas and whose descendents figured prominently in the history of Dallas and Collin Counties. One of them well known in Collin County was Wallace Hughston, longtime resident of Plano and McKinney, an attorney of distinction who also served as State Senator and head of the Masonic Lodge of Texas.
After the death of her parents Martha Beverley went to live with an aunt in Mississippi and here she married Moses Bill Dungan, a Confederate veteran. They settled in Collin County and became parents of the following children: Robert L., James M., Will A., Mrs. Annie Gibson, Mrs. Stella Drain, and Mrs. Mattie McKinney.
Many of their descendents still live in Collin County. William T. Dungan, Eustace Dungan, C. R. Dungan and Ruth Atterbury are children of Will A. Dungan and live in McKinney. Fred McKinney, son of Mattie Dungan and George McKinney live in McKinney. Mrs. Bessie Mae Hatfield is the daughter of Annie Dungan Gibson and lives in McKinney. Joe Dungan lives in Allen.
