ELISHA CHAMBERS FAMILY
Family history.
Elisha Chambers came to Texas in 1847. He was born in North Carolina the son of Elijah and Rebecca Moore Chambers. He was the eight of their nine children. Elisha’s grandparents were James Chambers and Nancy Windsor who were married in England, then settled in Maryland, and reared their family there and in North Carolina. Elisha’s great-grandparents on his mother’s side were Jerry O’Rielly and Margaret Ann Mannon who were married in County Cork, Ireland.
Elisha and Margaret Manning were married in July 1835. They were the parents of 13 children, of which Elijah was the third. The couple bought 320 acres on East Fork Creek near Chambersville. Elisha Chambers and Jacob Bryan gave to the people of Chambersville the school and the church properties. The Cemetery was donated by Elisha Chambers “to surround the grave of their small baby forever and forever.”
The children of Elisha and Margaret Manning Chambers were William P., James H., Margaret M., Florence J., Elisha M., Robert M., Elizabeth, and Mary W. Elizabeth married Jacob Bryan.
THE CHAMBERS OF CHAMBERSVILLE
Family history.
Elisha Chambers, one of Collin County’s early settlers, was the son of Elisha Chambers, a Primitive Baptist preacher, and Rebecca Moore Chambers of Burke County, North Carolina.
In 1835 the younger Elisha Chambers was married to Margaret Ann Mannon in Owen County, Indiana. In 1847 he and his wife and six children came to Collin county, settling in what is now known as the Chambersville Community. He bought the headright (640 acres) of John Larrimore and later bought 320 acres from William Lindsey. Some of this first headright is still owned by Chambers’ descendents.
A son, Lewis Cass, died in 1853 and his was the first grave in the Chambersville Cemetery, the land being given by Elisha Chambers. he and his wife are both buried here.
Elisabeth Chambers, who came with her parents, Elixha Chambers, to Collin County in 1847, was married to Jacob Francis Marion Bryon who was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee in 1839. He was the son of John and Millie Pullan Bryan. The family came to live in Collin in 1859....

....Elisha Chambers was a prosperous farmer and stockman. He was a Primitive Baptist and was called “Tater” Chambers because he was successful growing sweet potatoes. Five of his sons fought in the Civil War. Of those five, Elijah W. Chambers, who is buried here, was at one time owner of the gin. Milt and Lish Chambers (grandsons) played in the Chambersville band. There are twelve graves in the cemetery with the name Chambers.
