Friendship Baptist Church
In the fall of 1850, eight Baptists met in the home of Milton Mugg, 1 1/2 miles north of Weston. Led by Elders Eli Witt, Johnathan Phillips and Jehu Fyke, they constituted what was named "the Baptist Church of Christ, called Friendship."....Elder Witt was chosen pastor and served the church for the first three years of its history.
The date of organization is given on a fly leaf of the church clerk's record over the signature of Br. J. M. Graves: "Friendship Church was organized by Elder Witt Saturday before the second Sunday in October, 1850, with eight members."
In the fall of 1853, Elder Witt closed his work as pastor. his was a one fourth charge (one Sunday per month), and he continued to preach at his other three churches.
The earliest records have shown that the church was named Friendship at the time it was started in 1850; however, with the changes of locations it apparently was referred to by such names as Shady Grove and Highland during the periods when the church was in those locations.
